Remembering babies lost during pregnancy and shortly after birth

Families who have experienced the loss of a baby are being invited to remember their baby as part of a special ribbon display at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital during Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Baby Loss Awareness Week takes place from 9 to 15 October each year, bringing people together to remember babies who have died during pregnancy or shortly after birth, while raising awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss.

Throughout the week, our Bereavement Team will create a display of personalised ribbons in the Welcome Centre on Level 5 of Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

Last year’s display received more than 100 requests from families wishing to remember their babies, with many coming into hospital to see their ribbons and spend time with the team.

Families can request a ribbon in memory of their baby or babies by sending a text message to 07817 087097, including:

  • the name or names they would like included
  • their choice of pink, blue or cream ribbon.

Join us on 9 October

Families are warmly invited to visit the display on Friday 9 October between 10am and 1pm, when members of the Bereavement Team will be available in the Level 5 Welcome Centre.

There will also be an opportunity for families to spend some time together, speak to members of the team and take part in memory-making activities.

The ribbon display will remain in place throughout Baby Loss Awareness Week for anyone who would like to visit at another time.

Lighting up Midland Met

During the week, the front of the maternity department at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital will also be illuminated in pink and blue in remembrance of babies who have died and the families who continue to remember them.

The lighting has been kindly sponsored by Equans.

Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important opportunity to acknowledge pregnancy and baby loss, remember every baby whose life was cut short and show families that they are not alone.
