Amanda Geary

Group Director of Operations

The NHS cares for a wide range of people, people who are very young and people who are very old. Nothing encapsulates this more than the group of Women and Child Health. Amanda Geary has the task of managing this group.

Amanda, 52, lives in Worcestershire and is Group Director of Operations for Women and Child Health for Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

She said: “I am accountable for ensuring effective delivery of maternity, neonate, paediatric, gynaecology, gynae oncology, sexual health and community children’s services in the Trust.”

Amanda, originally from Sheffield, has spent all of her career at the Trust, starting as a student and working her way up to management.

She said: “I always wanted to be a nurse and did my student nurse training at Dudley Road Hospital after I had completed a Business degree in Birmingham. After a variety of interesting nursing roles I moved into general management.

“I have enjoyed every role I have undertaken from being a staff nurse on a surgical ward, ward manager, matron, general manager, Head of Services through to my current role as a senior manager. I have always worked at the Trust and have been able to combine my career with a hectic family life.”

Amanda says she is focussed by a “commitment to the delivery of high quality care.” This drives her to become involved in many projects in the Trust.

She said: “I work with a whole range of multi-disciplinary and multi-professional staff both within and outside the Trust. Every day is different, bringing different challenges.

“I enjoy working as part of very dedicated teams of staff and being constantly inspired by the commitment of staff to the delivery of quality care.”

Amanda is ready to tackle the next challenges at the Trust.

She said: “There is the ongoing work to prepare our services for the move into the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and greater integration of care delivery across our services.”

Away from work, Amanda spends time with the family, her husband and three grown up children, her two year old grandson and friends. She also likes to go and visit the North Cornish coast.
