Patients from across the West Midlands are now eligible for the latest advances in surgery for ingrowing toenails at Neptune Health Park, in Sedgley Road West, Tipton.
People from Birmingham, the Black Country or Worcestershire with severe ingrowing toenail problems can now receive the most effective treatment to permanently remove the offending nail or section of nail from Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust’s Department of Foot Health.
Nail surgery involves removing all or part of an ingrowing toenail to relieve the symptoms when other treatments have failed or infections occur regularly. Once a patient is referred by their GP or other health professional with an ingrowing toenail as a primary diagnosis, they are seen by the nail surgery team, which offers the following package of care:
- Rapid assessment, at which point the patient will be given the dates for each stage of the pathway if they are suitable to undergo nail surgery
- Surgery within seven days of assessment
- Surgery under local anaesthesia
- Redressing within five days of surgery
- Quick return to work/school (one to three days)
- Minimum of disruption to daily routine and mobility
The team uses a range of techniques, and is also able to offer adaptations to the care pathway for mild needle phobias and patients with higher risk factors.
