The Trust will retain three key facilities on Dudley Road:

1. Birmingham Treatment Centre

The Birmingham Treatment Centre provides state-of-the-art facilities for different services including:

Outpatient services:

  • General facilities for multi-speciality use
  • ENT and SLT
  • Breast services
  • Gynaecology
  • Paediatrics
  • Orthotics

Diagnostic services:

  • Endoscopy Unit
  • Imaging (PF, US, MRI, CT)
  • Medical Illustration
  • Phlebotomy
  • Cardiac Diagnostics
  • Respiratory Physiology (main department)

Day Treatment:

  • Day Surgery Unit – five theatres and one minor operations facility

Other:

  • Pharmacy
  • Clinical and Corporate Admin

2. Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre (BMEC)

The Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre is the second largest facility of its kind in Europe. On the same site as the current City Hospital, the facility receives referrals from hospitals and GPs across the region. A very comprehensive set of services treat many serious eye complaints including glaucoma, cataracts and diabetes-related conditions.

Upon completion of the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Soundview medical, BMEC will continue to offer:

  • Outpatients and Paediatric Outpatient
  • Day Surgery unit (three theatres)
  • Visual Function department
  • Ophthalmology A&E
  • Orthoptics
  • Optometry
  • Ophthalmology diagnostics
  • Medical Illustration
  • Pharmacy
  • Clinical admin/records
  • Behcets Service
  • Wet Lab/Training facility
  • Paediatric Day Surgery (no inpatients)

3. The Sheldon building

This will increasingly become our intermediate and rehabilitative unit for predominantly Birmingham residents and will continue to have wards for those patients.

Outpatient services

  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Therapy Services (Rehab, Occupational Therapy, Neurology, Speech and Language Therapy, Musculoskeletal, Foothealth and Rheumatology

Other services:

The Hearing Service Centre will remain at City Hospital.
