Trust staff give their feedback through the NHS Staff Survey

The results from the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey put Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust among the best for the quality of care given to patients and staff feeling their role makes a difference to patients.

In October last year staff at the Trust were given the opportunity to take part in the national survey with 2,786 having their say. The national survey is mandatory for all NHS organisations with the results being used to inform national initiatives that can help support improvements in staff experience and wellbeing. The results of the national NHS Staff Survey are also used by NHS England to support national assessments of quality and safety.

Sharing her thoughts on the NHS Staff Survey, Chief People Officer, Frieza Mahmood said: β€œIt’s critical that we encourage and empower every one of our staff to speak up and to be heard. The staff survey has given us a unique opportunity to look at how we have been supporting staff during one of the most trying times in the history of the NHS.

β€œI’m pleased to say that amongst the data we have been able to gather through this survey, there are a few key insights that we can take away. These are themes that are clearly evident in the responses we received from all corners of our organisation, and they are that colleagues believe that we are delivering good quality care and that our staff feel their roles are making a difference to patient care.”

Here are some of the highlights from the report:

  • I am satisfied with the quality of care I give to patients – 83.5 per cent
  • I feel that my role makes a difference to patients – 90.4 per cent
  • Care of patients is my organisation’s top priority – 75 per cent

Frieza continued: β€œIt is important that as an organisation we review the areas highlighted in the survey report where we could do better. Our senior leaders will be working with their teams across the Trust to get feedback from staff on how we can make improvements and put in place plans to ensure changes start to take effect in the coming months.”
