Old mobile phones make hospitals greener

12th Mar 2012

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust is marking Climate Week with an initiative to make hospitals leafier for patients and staff.

Part of a national campaign called ‘Fones for Forests,’ the Trust is collecting old mobile phones, which will be exchanged for trees to be planted around hospital buildings or in nearby forests.

The campaign is being run by the NHS Forest, a national project aimed at increasing green spaces in NHS areas.

Any old and broken mobile phones are accepted and they can be left in designated ‘Fones for NHS Forest’ containers at City Hospital in the reception area of the Birmingham Treatment Centre, or the main receptions at Sandwell Hospital and Rowley Regis Hospital.

Climate Week runs from today, Monday 12th March, to 18th March, and phones can be dropped off at the collection points until 19th March.
