Desperately seeking…

23rd Apr 2013

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) NHS Trust is holding a maternity garden fete in June to celebrate the first five years of the Serenity Midwife-led Unit. As part of this celebration we are seeking a midwife who worked at either City or Sandwell Hospital in the 1940s-1950s to open the fete and share her tale of midwifery days gone by.

The Serenity Midwife-led Unit, located near to the delivery suite at City Hospital was specially designed to make mums feel comfortable and relaxed during labour. Now, as it reaches its fifth year we are taking this opportunity to bring Serenity and its sister unit – Halcyon mums and babies together in a joint celebration of normal birth. This follows the success of two of the unit’s midwives, Kathryn Gutteridge and Helen Giles who scooped the promoting normal birth award at this year’s Royal College of Midwives Awards.

The garden party is due to be held on Saturday, 22nd June between 1pm and 3pm. More details will be revealed closer to the date.

If you are the midwife we are seeking and you would like to take part please contact Abigail Parkin, 0121 507 5676 or email swbh.comms@nhs.net.
