Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (SWBH) has been shortlisted in the Workforce category at the 2016 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards in partnership with de Poel health + care, to be held on 23 November at Intercontinental O2, London.
Judges have praised the excellent work that the Trust has put in to deliver the ‘Live and Work’ project, a unique scheme that aims to provide Apprenticeship opportunities and supported living accommodation within the hospital to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Jim Pollitt, Associate Director of Education and Learning and Development at SWBH said: “It is an honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious award and we are all pleased to see that this scheme has been nationally recognised.
“The long term objective of this project is to share our work regionally and nationally. We want to promote partnership working with the aim of providing a cost effective sustainable model which can bring back disused buildings to address health inequalities, youth homelessness and unemployment in our local communities.”

The shortlisted organisations will now complete presentations and interviews to a judging panel made up of senior and influential figures from the health sector, including Professor Steve Field, Chief Inspector of General Practice, CQC and Sir Malcolm Grant, Chair, NHS England.
