Urology

Treatment is given for lower urinary tract symptoms, such as prostate enlargement, and an overactive bladder.

The team also treat patients who suffer from erectile dysfunction with regular clinics.

We offer referrals into the Haematuria clinics (blood in urine), at City and Sandwell Hospitals as well as prostate biopsies once patients have been referred by their GP.
Our team also investigate and treat kidney, testicular and penile cancer. However, patients may be referred to regional cancer centres for testicular and penile cancer, once diagnosis is confirmed.

Patients who require radical surgery for prostate, bladder, or on occasions kidney cancer, will be investigated and followed up on site, but may be operated on at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham or at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton.

We offer a wide range of other urological treatment.

For patients suffering with kidney stones they can undergo the following: lithotripsy, ureteroscopic laser stone treatment, percutaneous stone surgery. We have an onsite Lithotripter machine providing non-invasive stone surgery.

We offer male and female patients urinary incontinence assessments, including flow rates, urodynamics, physiotherapy and continence services.

For patients with enlarged prostate causing urinary symptoms, we offer transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and the Uro-lift procedure.

The Macmillan Urology nurses act as key workers to patients diagnosed with one of the five urology cancer sites which are prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile.

Our patients are fully supported by our nursing team throughout their cancer pathway.

Our nursing team who support patients with benign (non-cancerous) conditions investigate urinary tract symptoms, and give treatment for bladder conditions.

We hold a quarterly prostate and urology cancer support group for patients. We meet on the first Wednesday in February, May, September and November.

During the two-hour session, which is held at Wood Lane Community Centre, in West Bromwich, we have expert speakers on varied subjects and the urology nurses are on hand to give out advice and support. For more information contact Emma Hill on 0121 507 5242.
