Emergency Gynae Assessment Unit
Our Emergency Gynaecology assessment unit is an area specialising in any gynaecology emergencies we see gynaecological patients that are admitted via Accident and Emergency, their GP or via patient access services. The unit is run by a group of specially trained Clinical Nurse specialists with the support of health care assistants. If you are referred to the unit when you first arrive you will be seen by a nurse who will confirm your name, address, date of birth. They will then take a baseline set of observations to include temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and height and weight measurements. The nurses will take an initial history of your presenting complaints and undertake any required examinations, following this you will be seen by a Doctor who will plan your care accordingly; this could include anything from initial treatment, blood tests an Ultra Sound Scan or Emergency Surgery if required. We also initiate and provide a fast hydration service for any patient experiencing Hyperemesis Gravidarum (a type of severe morning sickness).
Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit
The Early pregnancy Assessment unit provides an urgent care service for complications associated with early pregnancy including the diagnosis and management of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies and other common early pregnancy related problems. The team consists of specially trained Clinical nurse specialists, a sonographer, and appropriate medical staff on call. The unit is open from Monday to Friday 8am till 4pm and Saturdays 8am till 2pm. The unit is based alongside our emergency gynaecology assessment unit should you require admission or ongoing further management.
D21
We are a 16 bedded female Gynaecology/Gynaecology-oncology ward with a team of specially trained nurses who will endeavour to provide the best quality care for you following your gynaecology surgery and procedures. Our nurses are trained in enhanced recovery and also level one post-operative care. We have various levels of nursing staff within the ward area and support from health care assistants. We work closely with our gynaecology/surgical team and have planned daily ward rounds to assess and manage your care on a daily basis. You may also have involvement from other teams on an individual needs basis, i.e. physiotherapists, pain management team, nutritional team. Our aim is to support you to recover from your surgery in a relaxed friendly, clean environment. We also appreciate patient feedback and endeavour to continue to learn from patient experiences.
