Community Respiratory
The Community Respiratory Service treats Sandwell residents with breathing problems. The service provides a holistic approach to those living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, Bronchiectasis and Interstitial lung disease (ILD). Patients are seen in community-based clinics and also in their own homes for those that are unable to leave their residence.
We work closely with patients and their carers, with an aim to provide the best possible quality of life and to reduce any impact their breathing problems may have on social activities. For each patient we develop a personalised plan and provide continued support. Patients can access our services directly only once they have been referred by a GP or healthcare professional and assessed by the team.

Services
We assess, treat and help adults with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma, bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease to manage their respiratory condition. Those living with these conditions may have reoccurring problems with chest infections and breathlessness but with help from the team may feel better able to cope with their symptoms
We provide:
- Assessment, treatment and education
- Oxygen Service – assessment, prescription and follow-up, including home service for house bound individuals only
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation – an eight-week personalised programme of care to help improve your breathing, enable you to carry out daily activities and manage your condition better
- Nutrition and dietary assessment, support and advice
- Medication for treatment of an infection
- Nebuliser service for short-term use during an infection
- Diagnostic spirometry- tests that look at an individual’s lung function
