19th Jul 2017

A recruitment drive held at City Hospital has led to a staggering 95 conditional job offers to nurses.

More than 150 jobseekers went along to the Nursing Recruitment Open Day which was hailed a success by bosses at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

Throughout the day a total of 110 nurses were interviewed. Paul Hooton, Deputy Chief Nurse, said: “The day was a huge success and we have handed out 95 conditional job offers to candidates who will work across the Trust.

“It’s been amazing to meet so many enthusiastic nurses who want to work for our Trust. They were impressed with what we have to offer, through from training to staff benefits.
“We hope to build on this successful event, and as a result have more recruitment days lined up over the coming months. It means that we can look at making a significant increase within our nursing workforce.

”What also struck me was the sense of pride and achievement within the nursing workforce throughout the day. There was a real buzz and community spirit amongst everyone.”

Emma Black, who is studying child nursing, added: “I came here to explore what offers you had available. I’ve been successful on interview, and I can’t wait to be part of the team. It’s a fabulous, innovative environment and the staff are so lovely. I can’t wait to build my career here.”

The event saw various specialties showcasing their work across the organisation. They included cardiology, stroke and neurology, apprenticeships and paediatrics.
Other departments including the volunteering service, staff benefits and Your Trust Charity had stalls in the Postgraduate Centre, where the event was held.

And candidates also got the chance to hear Elaine Newell, the Trust’s Chief Nurse, talk about the opportunities within SWBH.
She told them: “We have flexible training programmes that enable you to pursue your ambition.”
