Midwives at a West Midlands hospital trust have been working around the clock to deliver twenty-four babies in the last twenty-four hours at their two birthing suites.
Following the arrival of the royal baby last month, midwives at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust have seen a boom in babies being born at their birthing suites.
Kathryn Gutteridge, Consultant Midwife at the Trust, said: “Over the last twenty-four hours, twenty-four babies have been born at the Serenity Birthing Suite at City Hospital and the Halcyon Birth Centre in Smethwick.
“Myself, the midwives, maternity support workers, student midwives and support staff would like to share our congratulations with all of our new mums, dads and their babies.”
One of the new mums is Bushra Shaheen, from Smethwick, who gave birth to her baby boy at the Serenity Suite at City Hospital. Bushra said: “We’re really pleased to welcome our new son into the family and are looking forward to introducing him to his big sister.”
Angela Cross, the midwife taking care of Bushra and her new baby, said: “It has been an extremely busy twenty-four hours, but it has been incredibly rewarding to help deliver so many beautiful babies.”
