Trust reassures patients on hearing services in Sutton Coldfield

19th Dec 2013

The hospital trust which runs an audiology clinic in Sutton Coldfield is reassuring patients that, contrary to rumours, it is not closing down.

There have been no plans to close the Boldmere Hearing Clinic on Boldmere Road, where hearing assessments and hearing aids are offered by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

Rumours have been circulating that the clinic is closing due to misleading advertising by another provider. However, the Trust would like to reassure patients that they will continue to provide tests, hearing aids and referrals to specialist services from the Boldmere Clinic. Drop-in sessions for batteries, re-tubing or hearing aid problems will also continue to run on Mondays 1.30 – 4pm and Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 – 11.30am. Qualified audiologists will also on hand to offer advice and answer any questions that people may have.

Dr Suki Dhillon, consultant clinical scientist and audiology service manager with the Trust, said: “Several patients have approached the clinic to ask if it was closing, following advertising on leaflets and in local magazines which asked patients to move to a clinic run by another provider.

“I would like to reassure Sutton Coldfield residents that Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust has never had any plans to close Boldmere Clinic and that patients do not have to move if they don’t want to. Local GPs can still refer patients to us and we will continue to provide a quality, safe NHS service from this location in the very heart of the community.”

The Boldmere Clinic offers a seamless service from testing to ongoing support, and patients can be referred to specialist audiology services as required
