Hospital trust’s Open Day seeks to recruit nurses to staff new services

31st Jul 2013

Due to the opening of two new wards, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust is launching a recruitment drive for nursing staff, with an Open Day arranged for this month.

All experienced nurses are invited to come along to the Trust’s Open Recruitment Day on Saturday 17 August, 10am – 4pm in the Postgraduate Centre at City Hospital, Birmingham. There will be stands from various departments and services from across the Trust, where visitors can meet the teams, learn more about working for the Trust and explore our exciting plans for the future. Interested nurses can apply on the day, take their numeracy and literacy tests and  be interviewed if successful.

There will be free parking, nursery facilities and light refreshments available.

Rachel Overfield, Chief Nurse at the Trust, said: “This is a really exciting time for nurses to join the Trust. As well as our new wards, we have ambitious plans to construct a single hospital site by 2019 and we are also working towards Foundation Trust status.

“We are looking for quality staff to provide excellent care, and in return the successful applicants can be confident that they will be working with some of the best practitioners around. In return we are committed to supporting our nursing staff, and provide a myriad of opportunities for professional and personal development.”

Helen Jenkinson, Head of Nursing for Medicine and Emergency Care at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are looking to recruit 70 nurses on our Open Day with a range of salary bands available, both full and part-time.

“The new nurses will be working with our existing teams at A&E, cardiology and older adults services, plus medical assessment units across all of our sites. There will also be new beds requiring nursing staff, including the 48-bed Medically Fit for Discharge ward and an extension of our assessment areas.”
