Asda stores in the Black Country have encouraged locals to donate toys in their Christmas trolley collection to support the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) Charity Christmas appeal. Both Asda Great Bridge and Asda Tipton donated a huge number of toys help make Christmas-time in hospital more enjoyable for sick local children.
Lisa Pearson from Asda Great Bridge and Asda Tipton’s Paula Beddoe paid a visit to the Children’s Department at Sandwell Hospital on 19 December armed with trolley-loads of toys to help make Christmas magical for sick children on the wards.
The donated toys were collected from the beginning of December at both stores, donated by generous customers who wanted to make Christmas special for children spending the festive period in hospital.
Carly Jones, Head of Fundraising for the SWBH charity said: “We’re truly amazed by the generosity of local people and the Asda stores for their support. It just goes to show how people rally together to support others going through a tough period, especially at a time like Christmas. Their kindness made a huge difference to sick children in the West Midlands and we could never have imagined we’d have such a huge amount of toys, games, books and gadgets to make their stay in Christmas that much more enjoyable.”
The SWBH charity funds additional facilities to enhance the experience of patients and their families across Sandwell, City and Rowley Regis Hospitals. They’re currently fundraising to make the outdoor play area at Sandwell an exciting and stimulating space for children of all ages.
