Local School’s Hospital Donation brings Christmas Cheer

18th Dec 2013

Teenagers and teaching staff joined forces on a visit to Sandwell Hospital, part of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital Trust, (SWBH) this week when Stuart Bathurst School in Wednesbury paid a pre-Christmas visit to the children’s wards.

As well as donating chocolate selection boxes, toys and books, pupils from the school had also managed to raise a magnificent £825 for the SWBH Charity.

Mrs Vicky Hussain, a teacher at Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School explained: “Our pupils chose to make the donations to the SWBH Charity as they wanted to support their local hospital and also we were so pleased that a small group were able to come along and actually see where their donations are going to.”

The cash donation was raised as part of a popular non-uniform day at the school and the toys, books and selection boxes were given by individuals.  The children and school staff where met at the hospital by Joy Haywood, Ward Manager and Laura Blackham, Fundraising Manager, from SWBH Charity’s Fundraising Team.

Nurse Joy introduced the school visitors to several of the children currently on the ward, including three and a half year old Mason Williams from Rowley Regis. Mason was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition his Mum, Melodie, is keen to raise awareness of.

Head of Fundraising, Carly Jones said “We’re delighted Stuart Bathurst High School chose to support the SWBH Charity. The selection boxes went down a storm with our young patients. Their generosity in donating the proceeds from their non-uniform day to us is truly fantastic and will go a long way to helping us improve the experience of our patients on Sandwell’s paediatric wards.”
