Shops run by Volunteers
The charity Agewell has recently opened a shop at Sandwell Hospital, and all proceeds will go towards helping older people in need. The shop sells a range of items including sandwiches, snacks, drinks, toiletries and newspapers. The volunteers plan to ask for feedback from the public to ensure they offer as wide a range of products as possible. In the longer term, the shop wants to create a space where patients can drop in for a drink and chat. Volunteers will then have an opportunity to help patients identify the community services that can help them.
A trolley service is also run by Agewell and makes its rounds twice a day at Sandwell Hospital.
League of Friends volunteers run shops, book sales and take trolleys around the wards at Sandwell, City and Rowley Regis Hospitals and the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, also based at City Hospital.
