Sustainability at SWB
We are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and have set up an action plan to incorporate sustainability into all of our functions. We have set up a Sustainability Working Group to monitor, review and take appropriate action to ensure we minimise our impact on the environment.
We have been working to reduce our carbon footprint for the last few years and have a well-established Carbon Management Plan in place to help us measure, monitor and reduce our carbon emissions.
The Trust also has in place a Public Health Plan where we have committed to reducing landfill use by 5%, stabilising our energy usage at 2013-14 levels, and improving our NHS Good Corporate Citizen assessment score by 10% or better by 2017.
As part of this work to reduce our carbon emissions, we have:
- Installed PC energy saving shutdown software to reduce electricity wastage
- Replaced our main steam boilers at City Hospital and Sandwell Hospital to reduce our gas consumption
- Installed energy efficient lighting and controls across the Trust
- Installed solar panels on our Birmingham Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) at City Hospital and at Rowley Regis
