Newton 1 is a hyper-acute stroke ward for male and female patients. Patients who have suffered a stroke will be admitted to this ward for assessment and stabilisation, before being discharged or transferred to a rehabilitation ward.
A highly skilled team uses their expert knowledge to ensure the efficient diagnosis and quick stabilisation of patients. Staff adopt a caring and empathetic approach to provide reassurance for patients and their families.
The ward can accommodate up to 10 patients and has 2 extra beds reserved for monitoring.
Patients admitted to this ward are expected to stay for no longer than 7 days before they are discharged or transferred to Newton 4.
Visiting hours are between 2 -4pm and 6.30-8pm.
(On March 4 2013 this ward will move to Priory 4)

Patients on Newton 4 are cared for by a multidisciplinary team.
This includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and psychologists, in addition to consultants, doctors, nurses and health care assistants.

Patients staying on Newton 1 will need to bring:
• Any hygiene products (such as pads)
• Any medicines or tablets you take
• Dressing gown and slippers
• Daywear – tracksuit or comfortable clothes
• Toothbrush and toothpaste
• Soap and deodorant
• Bath towel and a flannel or sponge
• Shaving equipment if appropriate
• Sanitary products if appropriate
Do not bring:
• Large amounts of money
• Valuables such as jewellery
• Television or radios
