D42 (Surgical Assessment Unit)

D42 is an assessment ward for patients admitted from A&E who require emergency surgery.

Patients will stay on this ward for a maximum of 24 hours. During this time patients will have their condition evaluated and their care planned.

General surgery and Trauma and Orthopaedic patients will be transferred to Sandwell General Hospital for their treatment.

When possible, it is important for patients being admitted to SAU to bring any medication they are on with them.

Toiletries are usually available on this ward.

The Neonatal Unit is in the main City Hospital building on the first floor of the main corridor – opposite D41 and above the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)
