As you approach Grove Lane in Smethwick, you may have seen the building work currently underway. What you may not know is that it’s the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) that is under construction as part of the Trust.
Midland Met, as it’s affectionately known, will be a significant hospital within Birmingham and the Black Country. Bringing together specialties from all areas of the organisation, it will provide a hub for emergency care, acute medical wards, maternity, general and specialist surgery.
Our new hospital will bring together all critical and emergency care services that currently take place at City and Sandwell Hospitals. This change means that the hospitals will combine forces to serve patients that are extremely unwell and need a hospital stay; or whose care is an emergency.
The build has progressed well, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
