LEND US YOUR VOICE

23rd Apr 2013

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals (SWBH) NHS Trust is due to launch its first choir for cancer patients and their carers – and need your voice!

Following the success of last year’s Cancer Wellbeing fair, the Cancer Services team has decided to start a choir for cancer patients and their carers, giving  patients more opportunity to be involved and engaged with fellow patients, whilst also helping to improve their health and wellbeing.

“The choir will provide the ideal opportunity for patients to engage with one another outside of a clinical setting and help promote living with cancer in a positive way. As well as having fun, taking part in the choir may provide other benefits. Singing can help improve posture, breathing and lung function, whilst also helping to reduce stress and improve mood.  We would encourage people of all singing abilities to join in as the only thing needed is enthusiasm!” said Teresa Rowe, Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse.

The choir is open to all cancer patients, who have received treatment at the Trust and their carers. Rehearsals will start on Saturday mornings in June, at Sandwell Hospital with professional input from Margaret Jones who is a qualified music teacher with a wealth of experience.

The choir will then make their debut public performance at this year’s Cancer Wellbeing fair due to be held on the 27th of September at The Public, West Bromwich.

If you are interested in getting involved please contact the cancer services team on 0121 507 2618.
