Cardiologist named in world’s top ten

A cardiologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust has been named in the top ten in the world in his field.

Professor Gregory Lip has been ranked number six in Expertscape’s list of world experts in hypertension, a condition more commonly known as high blood pressure.

The accolade comes a few months after Professor Lip’s inclusion as number one in the world for his expertise in atrial fibrillation, which is a common heart rhythm condition which can leads to an increased risk of stroke and heart failure.

Professor Lip’s work has led to has led to important changes in the way the condition is managed and changes in guidelines nationally and internationally.

Prof Lip said: “I am delighted to be listed on the world rankings of hypertension experts, which follows the recent top ranking on the list of atrial fibrillation experts.

“Hypertension and Atrial Fibrillation are very common conditions, and is the focus of my clinical and research activities. It is nice to know that my work is highly regarded, appreciated and recognised externally.”

The global expert list was compiled by medical expert ranking website, Expertscape by objectively going through published research work in order to recognise the world leaders in their field.
