Professor Robert Scott

Prof Robert Scott qualified from St Thomas’ Hospital in London and specialised in Ophthalmology at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He attained dual Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1993.Β  He is a consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, Birmingham and has helped treat the soldiers with eye injuries brought back to the UK from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His work with artificial vision for the war-blinded was featured on the acclaimed BBC documentary ‘Frontline Medicine’. He was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of Nottingham and was elected as President of the Midland Ophthalmological Society in 1998. He has widely published in the scientific press. He was appointed as the Defence Medical Services and Royal College of Ophthalmologists Professor of Ophthalmology in 2012 and now combines work as a Vitreoretinal Surgeon at BMEC and as Ophthalmology lead for the National Institute of Health Research Centre for Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology.
