Professor Kate Thomas
Kate is the Vice Dean and Programme Director for the MB ChB medical degree programme at the University of Birmingham. A Birmingham graduate herself, Kate trained as a GP and has worked at Ley Hill Surgery, Sutton Coldfield, since 1989. Kate works in the practice one day a week and the remainder of her time is spent on the MB ChB. There are currently 374 students in each year of the programme who study in the Medical School and at 15 partner Trusts and over 100 general practices. For 18 years Kate was responsible for medical student welfare at Birmingham and she now oversees the development of the curriculum; assessments; student support and fitness to practise. She has a particular interest in the teaching of professional values. Kate is a member of the United Kingdom Foundation Programme Office Rules Group and an Educational Associate at the GMC.
