Gym

City Hospital has an Active Health Club which is available to all staff across the Trust. The cost of membership is highly subsidised for staff, who are encouraged to use the facilities to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The gym features all the modern cardiovascular machines you would expect of a modern facility – treadmills, steppers, cycles, cross trainers and rowing machines. There are also several items of weight-training equipment for developing upper and lower body strength.

The gym also has full changing facilities with lockers and showers.

Staff members enjoy unlimited use of the health club, along with one-to-one instruction, personalised exercise programmes, equipment training and interactive fitness challenges.

Whilst there is a small membership charge for general use, staff with medical referrals can use the club free for six weeks. Referrals may be made if staff with the following conditions have been advised that physical activity would be beneficial for their health:

  • diabetes
  • cardiovascular disease
  • stress, anxiety and depression
  • weight management
  • muscular/skeletal problems
  • post-operative recovery

The Trust also offers corporate membership rates for the joint Sandwell/Birmingham Leisure Trust Scheme. Staff are entitled to a 20% discount on public membership, which entitles them to unlimited public swimming, gym sessions, fitness classes, sauna and steam at many leisure centres across the two boroughs.
