Henderson Reablement Unit
The Henderson Unit is a short stay rehabilitation ward which offers patients individual, holistic care to help them become more independent.
The care offered at the Henderson Unit enables patients to carry out everyday tasks such as washing, dressing, walking and eating on their own.
Patients will usually stay on the ward for 2-4 weeks (6 weeks maximum stay) during which time they will receive daily treatment and therapy.
Visitors are welcome to the unit at any time other than meal times.
Meal times on the unit are as follows:
Breakfast: 7am-9.30am
Lunch: 12pm-1pm
Dinner: 5pm-6pm
Visitors are also encouraged to avoid visiting during the morning when re-ablement activities are being held.

Senior Sister:
Patients in the Henderson Unit will be treated by a multidisciplinary team which includes GPs, consultants, nurses, re-ablement support workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists, pharmacists.

Red Cross
Red Cross visit the unit every other week and offer manicures, hand massages and other treatments to patients during their stay.
Gardening Club
During your stay at the unit you may want to get involved with the gardening club. Taking part gives you the chance to exercise and socialise with other patients staying on the unit. The gardening club grow vegetables and plant flowers. If the weather is nice the group is outside If not, the group stay inside in the warm.
Exercise Group
The exercise gives you a chance to socialise with other people staying on the ward whilst also helping to improve your balance, stamina and helps to increase your independence with everyday tasks.
Craft Activities
Getting involved in the craft activities keeps the Henderson Re-ablement unit looking season, gives you the chance to show your creative side, trying something new also helps to build up your confidence and is good dexterity practice.
Sandwell Book People
Sandwell book people will order in books of your choice for you to read during your stay. The books are available in different formats e.g. large print, audio books. The book people can also bring in comedy shows and music – it’s up to you!
The Henderson unit have many other groups you can get involved in during your stay including a baking group and a relaxation group.
Patients staying on the Henderson Unit will need to bring:
• Daywear
• Nightwear
• Toiletries
• Any medication needed
