Mental Health
A patient’s mental health is becoming increasingly important in our hospitals as the number of patients suffering dementia and other mental health illnesses is increasing.
We have dedicated support at both our main hospitals for patients suffering from mental health illnesses.
The Rapid Assessment Interface and Discharge team at City Hospital is made up of a multi-skilled team that provides a comprehensive assessment of a person’s physical and psychological wellbeing.
Team members visit patients in wards across the hospital, and in A&E. They provide a psychiatric liaison, and bring together practitioners from other mental health specialities, including substance misuse and old age psychiatry in one team so that all patients over the age of 16 can be assessed and treated or referred appropriately much earlier.
At Sandwell Hospital we have mental health liaison nurses who provide support for patients with mental health needs.
