The Trauma & Orthopaedic Department based at both the City and Sandwell sites offers 24 hours trauma services, General orthopaedic service as well as Sub-specialist services. The team of 12 Consultant orthopaedic surgeons is supported by junior medical staff and Clinical Nurse Practitioners supporting a wide range of services for most of the trauma and orthopaedic conditions. Outpatients as well as day care services are based at both sites. Inpatient services for elective and emergency trauma and orthopaedic patients are currently offered at both sites with plans for merger to one site.• Trauma and Orthopaedics at City Hospital >>
Services offered:
- Day care services at Birmingham Treatment Centre for variety of orthopaedic conditions.
- Adult trauma services for all aspect of trauma.
- Paediatric trauma services above 3 years of age.
- Arthroscopic surgery for knee, ankle, wrist, elbow and shoulder.
- All adult general orthopaedic conditions.
- Joint replacements for hip, knee, shoulder and ankle joint.
Sub-specialist Services:
- shoulder surgery: Rotator cuff problems, shoulder replacements, shoulder stabilisation.
- knee surgery: Primary and revision knee replacement, ligament reconstruction, Meniscal injuries.
- hand surgery: Extensor & Flexor tendon repair and reconstruction, Duputrens contracture, Different osteotomies for correction of deformities.
- foot surgery: Comprehensive surgery for hallux valgus and bunion, various joint replacements, ligament reconstruction.
- sports medicine: Comprehensive care of soft tissue injuries (muscle and ligament) in sports injuries.
- hip surgery: Primary and complex hip replacement, Hip resurfacing, revision hip replacements, Sports injuries.
All consultants provide comprehensive trauma & general orthopaedic services in addition to special interest.
