The Division of Clinical Imaging offers a full range of diagnostic modalities on both hospital sites. Sandwell site is fully computerised with a CR system and integrated PACS technology. City site is well advanced in working towards PACS implementation.
 
The wide-ranging diagnostic and interventional service includes x-rays (plain films and contrast studies), ultrasound scanning, CT scanning, MRI scanning, Breast imaging, Complex interventional radiology, Physics and Nuclear mmedicine, Radiopharmacy, DEXA Bone densitometry, medical illustration, Partial PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
 
The department operates the latest imaging equipment including multi-slice helical CT, interventional-suites, Radionuclide Imaging (Nuclear Medicine) and Ultrasound on City and Sandwell sites.
 
Imaging is a satellite site for the Accelerated Learning Programme for Radiography staff and we are committed to development opportunities for our staff and explore new advanced and extended roles. We have large training departments for radiographers and radiologists with Specialist Registrars from the West Midlands Regional Training Scheme and associated comprehensive facilities. We are also actively involved in research projects often in association with clinical colleagues.
 
Our Radiologists have expertise in many areas including cross sectional (ultrasound, CT and MRI), GI, respiratory, musculoskeletal, urogenital, gynaecological, neuro, ENT, paediatric, breast, and complex interventional radiology.
 
The large breast unit covers breast screening for north, east and west Birmingham. The Radiopharmacy is a regional unit providing radiopharmaceuticals to six hospitals. The large Physics and Nuclear Medicine Department is staffed with consultants in Nuclear Medicine and has a specialist registrar. It is internationally renowned for its research.
