•Emergency Care >>

The Trust provides 24 Hour Emergency Care Facilities at City and Sandwell Hospitals.

City Hospital has a dedicated Accident and Emergency Unit with hi-tech resuscitation and post resuscitation areas as well as an x-ray department within the unit. The paediatric unit within the department has specially trained staff.

An £18million Emergency Service Centre is open on the Sandwell site. This is a new concept in managing emergencies and the Trust has developed new models of care and working in partnership with colleagues from Primary Care. The state of the art centre has a 32 bedded Emergency Assessment Unit together with Coronary Care and Cath Lab facility. There are support services particularly from Imaging and Pathology.

There are assessment units at City and Sandwell, both taking patients who have been referred by their GP. The Emergency Assessment Unit at Sandwell takes both medical and surgical emergencies. City Hospital has a Medical Assessment Unit which enables patients to have full medical assessment before they are admitted or discharged. The Division takes the lead on Major Incident Planning and has developed close links with both internal and external agencies.
