Trust praised for high value healthcare services

16th Jan 2017

Two clinical teams at our Trust have been shortlisted for national awards following their impressive work with patients suffering from long-term conditions.

The Rheumatology Department and the FINCH team  have been recognised by the 2017 Health Service Journal’s Value in Healthcare Awards.

Both sets of clinicians have demonstrated their excellent work in improving value and efficiency in healthcare.

The Rheumatology Department has transformed its services, which means patients no longer have to stay overnight at the hospitals to be monitored.

In addition, the team’s consultants visit GP surgeries every week to see patients in the community and ensure they have all the support that they need right at home.

Professor Karim Raza from the Rheumatology team, said: “The entire Rheumatology team at SWBH are delighted to have been shortlisted for this important award. The team prides itself on holistic multidisciplinary care, underpinned by a strong research tradition and are delighted that the HSJ judging panel have recognised this.”

The multi award-winning FINCH team impressed the judges with its constant effort in ensuring patients have the right treatment for continence conditions without having to travel far from their home.

Kelly Stackhouse, lead nurse for the FINCH team, added: “We are honoured to be shortlisted and it’s such an achievement to get our work recognised.

“The quality of life for patients using our service has vastly improved. Importantly, the continued national recognition means we are reaching out to more people so they don’t suffer in silence.

“Our ultimate vision is to break the taboo associated with poo, enabling more people to come forward and talk about their concerns with minimal embarrassment.”

The winners will be announced in May at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in London.
