I was awarded the title of Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Birmingham in 2007. I continue to pursue clinical work and teaching as a consultant rheumatologist at City Hospital, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I am internationally recognised for my work on systemic lupus erythematosus and the effects of pregnancy on the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The Birmingham lupus clinics were awarded the title of LUPUS UK Centre of Excellence in 2005, the first lupus centre in the UK to receive this award. I am a musculoskeletal lead for undergraduate medicine at the University of Birmingham Medical School.
