Mrs Peck-Lin Lip

Mrs Peck-Lin Lip was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Medical Retina at BMEC since 2001. Having graduated from The University of Glasgow in 1990, she spent her junior doctor training years in the West of Scotland and continued specialist training in Ophthalmology in the West Midlands, during which time she advanced as the Birmingham & Midland Eye Foundation Fellow, doing research and sub-specialising in medical retinal and retino-vascular diseases.

Clinics: She runs a consultant-led medical retina clinic at BMEC on Wednesday mornings, providing fast-track service in diagnosing and treating patients with aged-related macular degeneration, and other macular / retino-vascular diseases. She has a dedicated diabetic eye clinic on Wednesday afternoons aiming for one-stop diagnosis and laser therapy for urgent diseases. In addition, she runs a community-based general eye clinic at Lordswood Surgery, Harborne, on alternate Tuesdays.

She leads a tertiary referral sickle cell eye clinic at BMEC. This unique clinic was established in 2002 for the benefit of the large Afro-Caribbean community in West Midlands. It is held once a month dedicated to clinical and research services for patients with sickle-cell disease in close collaboration with the Sickle and Thalassaemia Centre at City Hospital. It provides an efficient one-stop disease screening, diagnosis, investigations and laser therapy where indicated.

Surgery: She has one theatre session a week with training commitments for performing small incisional cataract surgery (phacoemulsification), indirect lasers, cyclodiode lasers and intravitreal injections.

Others: She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer of University of Birmingham. She has been the Flexible Training Advisor Lead for Ophthalmology for West Midlands Deanery since 2002.
