Mr Ajai K Tyagi is at present the Divisional Director Surgery-B and Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon. His was appointed as Divisional Director in 2012, following his stint as the Clinical Director for Ophthalmology services at SWBH. He was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Vitreoretinal surgery in 2001.
Mr Tyagi graduated from Goa Medical College in 1987 and was awarded the Masters in Ophthalmology (MS) in 1990. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1994. He completed his Registrar training in general Ophthalmology at The Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, Birmingham. Following this he underwent sub-specialist training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He also undertook an Observership at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore to study new surgical techniques in managing patients with retinal and in particular macular diseases.
Mr Tyagi teaches medical students and allied staff. He also trains surgeons from across the globe in vitreoretinal surgery. He has presented at various international conferences and has published research papers in prestigious medical journals.
In 2010, Mr Tyagi was awarded MBA with distinction from the Aston Business School (Aston University). He specialised in Strategic management and his project for dissertation was awarded the Industrial Administration Group prize for the best project by a part time MBA student.
