Special interests:  Sleep Disordered Breathing, Lung Cancer, Interstitial Lung Diseases and Medical Education. General clinics in asthma, COPD, TB, Respiratory infections and Occupational lung diseases.  Active Research with many publications in peer reviewed journals. Examiner for RCP and U of London.

Specialist Interest

Lead in the treatment of Sleep disordered breathing with many patients on CPAP and NIV, Tuberculosis, Interstitial Lung Diseases and Thoracic Oncology (lung cancer and mesothelioma).  Lead interventional pulmonology; Diagnostic Bronchoscopy; Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS); Medical Thoracoscopy;  Thoracic Ultrasound.   Additionally, he acts as a busy respiratory and general physician at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust and taking part in Acute Internal Medicine.

Active Research with many publications in peer reviewed journals.

He undertook his junior doctor training at various hospitals including St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal London. Whilst there, he developed an interest in lung infections and the effect of bacterial toxins on the bronchial epithelium. This resulted in a number of original research articles in peer-reviewed journals and the award of PhD in 1998.

He is currently Consultant Respiratory and General Physician and Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer for University of Birmingham.  Formerly a Divisional Director for Medicine A and Emergency Care Services, he was awarded Fit To Lead Award by the British Association of Medical Managers.

He takes keen interest in medical education and teaches both undergraduates and postgraduates. Has recently been awarded the Certificate in Medical Education for Health Professionals from University of Birmingham. He is a Named Clinical and Educational Supervisor for postgraduate doctors.
