Dr David Nicholl

David Nicholl has been a Consultant Neurologist at SWBH since 2002 and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Birmingham, UK. He also works at University Hospital Birmingham.

He has performed a wide variety of research work in Parkinson’s disease over the last 15 years, including the identification of one of the commonest genetic forms of PD.

He has been directly involved in the largest pragmatic clinical trials to date in Parkinson’s disease (PDMED), stroke thrombolysis (IST3), and epilepsy (SANAD)

He is Vice Chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee in Neurology at JCRCPTB. He has been elected on the Council of the Royal College of Physicians (2013-2016). He is the West Midlands representative on the Neuroscience CRG. He co-hosts the Birmingham Movement Disorders Course (www.birminghammodis.com). He teaches on global medical ethics and has acted as a invited medical expert to the European Union on torture and lethal injection.

He has written over 30 peer reviewed papers on movement disorders, headache, stroke, medical ethics and orphan drugs.

Speciality

I am passionate about teaching and I am the chair of the training committee and the Trust. My mission statement is to cure neurophobia (fear of neurology).
